If you are considering getting contact lenses, you will need to have a special contact lens exam which includes a contact lens fitting. Before you get the contact lens exam, you will need a comprehensive eye exam to determine if you are a good candidate for wearing contact lenses. The comprehensive eye exam and the special contact lens exam and fitting are both prerequisites to getting contacts. Together, they will help our expert optometrist to determine if contact lenses are appropriate for you. If you haven’t had a comprehensive eye exam recently, we highly recommend that you call our Berea optometry office, Oneway Eyeglasses and schedule an appointment to get both exams done in the same visit. This will make it more convenient for you.

When you come to our Berea optometry office, Oneway Eyeglasses, our expert optometrist will do a comprehensive eye exam to make sure that your eyes are healthy enough for contacts and to rule out any eye diseases and/or conditions. If everything is alright then you will be asked about your lifestyle in order to determine what types of contact lenses would be appropriate for you. For example, if you only want to wear contacts once occasionally (parties, special events) and want to use your eyeglasses the majority of the time then disposable contact lenses would probably be a good option for you. Other factors such as whether or not you play sports, would like to change your eye color (you would need to get color changing lenses) or would like to eliminate the use of eyeglasses completely all play a role in determining the right contact lenses for you and your comfort level.

Some people can handle hard contact lenses (which provide clearer, sharper vision than soft contact lenses) but others prefer soft contact lenses because they’re more comfortable. Once the type of contact lenses you would like is determined, your cornea will need to be measured and examined since your contact lenses are placed directly on top of the cornea. It’s very important that they fit your cornea’s shape and size well and that they also provide you with clear vision. Different lenses will be placed in your eyes and tested to ensure that your contacts provide you with the best comfort, vision clarity & proper fit for you.

When you come to our Berea optometry office, Oneway Eyeglasses, we’ll take the time to teach you how to use and properly clean your contact lenses and answer any questions you may have.

Your vision screening will test how well you see close up and far away. If your vision is not quite up to par, eyeglasses or contacts will be recommended. You can get your prescription filled by our opticians, quickly and accurately. If you already have corrective lenses, your yearly eye exam with our Berea eye doctor will help to determine if your current prescription is still working to give you the best vision possible or if it needs to be updated.

Your eyelids, eye muscles, retinas, conjunctiva, corneas- in short, all of the important pars of your eyes will be examined. This includes the blood vessels in your eyes, which can also offer important clues to your general health. Such diseases as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes can be indicated by what our Berea eye doctor sees in your optical blood vessels. If any problems are suspected, you will be referred to your primary care physician for further follow up.

When it comes to eye diseases, you cannot simply wait and hope that to be tipped off to a potential problem by a symptom. Many common eye concerns can start and advance without any obvious signs. This is why our Berea eye doctor tests you for glaucoma, cataracts, and other potential diseases such as retinopathy for those who are diabetic. It is important to tell Dr. Yeager about your health history and heredity because these factors play heavily into whether you are prone to particular eye problems. A yearly comprehensive eye exam is vital to maintaining your eyes, so don’t leave it to chance.
